Peter here, I'm so happy you've taken the time to look at FaithAndFamilyAbilene.com. Please come back often as we are working hard to make it "Your Abilene and Area Online Business Connection".  We believe that our name perfectly defines our growing small businesses community here in West Central Texas, and you can read my reasoning why as you scroll down a little. 
 

First, a little about me. I'm a husband, father, a grandfather, a Canadian and a Texan. Shirley and I were married in Lubbock, then moved to Canada. Ten years and three children later we moved to Abilene where I started several Big Country Telephone Directories (Later called Area-Wide). After approximately 10 years I sold all the directories to an investment group, and the next 20 years worked as a field director for Texas Midwest Community Network.  TMCN was guided for the first 22 years by Executive Director Nicki Harle, now Callahan County Judge, and Lori Dodd from Gorman is now its executive director. TMCN helps promote tourism and economic development throughout West Central Texas, and is celebrating its 30th year.
 

Why The Name "FaithAndFamily?"
 

FAITH: Faith is what makes life work. In this context faith could be understood with this question, “How many of your best traits were learned through adversity?” I’m guessing most of them. Planning will reduce some unknowns but not eliminate them, and faith is demonstrated best in the way we are able to handle our stormy days. Lewis Carroll the English author and poet once said, “One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others.”  To these words of Carroll I would also add, "At the end of the day it’s almost always the small things that really count".

FAMILY: Life is not a do-it-yourself experience. One of the gifts my parents gave me was an imperfect home. They were godly and honest, but practical. Honest about what they believed, and honest about their inability to always live up to their ideals. Farming can teach us much. I remember very clearly that who my parents were at home always matched who they were to the world at large. Consistency like that gave me security and a foundation of trust both with my own family and with others. “Every effort to make society sensitive to the importance of family is a great service to humanity” - Pope John Paul II

BUSINESS: Small businesses are vital to a prosperous society. They create over 60% of all new jobs, most innovation comes through small businesses, and overall they are good at supporting faith and family. When responsible men and women, with different gifts and world views, fashion commerce together they are motivated with aspirations beyond just business pursuits. They are employers and customers which creates prosperity in their community.  A small business will travel a changing path that may not always be smooth, but with time and work it provides society with something that's very special.
